About me

Prof. Arpan K. Kar is Chairman and Professor of Information Systems Group in the Department of Management Studies  and Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Also he has is associated with the Bharti School of Telecom and Centre for Excellence in Cyber Systems and Information Assurance. His research is in the interface of artificial intelligence, digital platforms, internet ecosystems, social media and ICT-based public policy using computationally intensive machine learning based mixed research methods. He has authored over 250 peer reviewed articles and edited 14 research monographs. As of 2025, his research has been cited over 29,000 times as per Google Scholar. He has an H Index over 70 and I-10 index over 190. Within IIT Delhi, he is the Chair of Information Systems, Corporate Relations and member of different Academic Programme Policy Committees, and also serves on the board / expert committees of other organizations / ministriea as well.

He is the Editor of the Analytics Section for the Applied Operations and Analytics (T&F, The OR Society). He is also Associate Editor in Communications of the Association for Information Systems (ABDC A, AIS), Journal of Computer Information Systems (ABDC A, T&F) and Global Journal of Flexible Systems Management (ABDC A, Springer). He was the Editor in Chief (2020-2024) of International Journal of Information Management Data Insights, published by Elsevier, which is a Q1 journal. He was earlier also Senior Editor for Decision Support Systems (ABDC A*, SSB) and Associate Editor in International Journal of Information Management (ABDC A*, Elsevier), Journal of Public Affairs (ABDC B, Wiley), and Sage Open (Sage).

He has also been a Guest Editor for many reputed journals like Journal of the Association for Information Systems (Coordinating Senior Editor, ABDC A*, SSB), Management Information Systems Quarterly (Associate Editor, ABDC A*, FT50, SSB), Decision Support Systems (Coordinating Senior Editor, ABDC A*, SSB), Industrial Marketing Management (ABDC A*), International Journal of Information Management (Coordinating Editor, ABDC A*), Information Systems Frontiers (ABDC A, twice), Australasian Journal in Information Systems (ABDC A), and few more. Further he is in the Editorial Board of Journal of Strategic Information Systems (ABDC A*, SSB), Government Information Quarterly, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Global Information Management, etc. He has also served as Associate Editor, Track Chair and Conference Chair in reputed conferences like ICIS, BIGS, PACIS, ECIS, IFIP WG 6.11 and 8.6 conferences. He has received outstanding contribution in reviewing from 8 journals like Information and Management, Government Information Quarterly, International Journal of Information Management, Land Use Policy, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, etc. He has undertaken over 750 verified peer reviews and over 900 editorial records as on 2025 in Web of Science (Researcher ID : B-9999-2009).

Out of his 250+ publications, he has published over 100 articles in very reputed journals (ABDC A, ABS 3 and Impact Factor Q1), and out of these, 20+ published articles are in ABDC A* ranked journals. He has published extensively in journals like Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Information Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Technovation, IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management, Information Systems Frontiers,  Information Technology and People, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Marketing, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Government Information Quarterly, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of Computer Information Systems, International Journal of Production Economics, Annals of Operations Research, Journal of Enterprise Information Management, Enterprise Information Systems, Decision Analysis, etc. 

He has undertaken over 50 research, consultancy and training projects from organizations like BASF, PWC, Fidelity, EY, Facebook, CIPPEC, BitGrit and Ministries under Government of India (NEGD, MEITY, DST, MOTA, MoT, DRDO, MHRD, etc). He has received numerous recognitions for his research contributions from reputed organizations like 3 International Federation of Information Processing Best Paper Awards, Tata Consultancy Services Research Award, Project Management Institute Young Research Scholar Award, Association of Indian Management Schools Faculty Research Award, IIT Delhi Teaching Excellence Award, Basant Kumar Birla Distinguished Researcher Award (BimTech), Association of Computing Machinery ICEGOV Best Research Paper Award, NIT Goa Research Paper Award, and Clarivate Analytics Research Excellence Award (Web of Science).

Education wise, he completed his Graduation (B.Engg.) from Jadavpur University (Gold medalist) and Masters/Doctorate (Fellow) from XLRI Jamshedpur. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he has worked for IIM Rohtak, IBM Research and Cognizant.
